Although primarily Eger known for its red wines, like Egri Bikavér- Bull’s Blood as a blended red, Egri Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Egri Merlot, Egri Kékfrankos and Kékmedoc - white grapes have always been cultivated here and the surrounding region; until the early 16th century.

The region was dominated almost exclusively by white grape types. Egri Leányka, Debrői Hárslevelű, Egri Chardonnay, Olaszrizling

- Legend has it that during the siege of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, the Eger troops stained their beards and armor with Egri Bikaver which led the enemies to believe that they had drunk the blood of bulls.
